Did you know the extent to which blood sugar stability impacts your body and well-being? The trajectory of blood sugar levels is not only linked to our aging process but also to our sleep, weight, hormone regulation, and so much more. The course of the glucose curve is significantly influenced by factors such as diet and physical activity.
Biochemist Jessie Inchauspé, also known as the Glucose Goddess, has made it her mission to share her experience and scientific knowledge with as many people as possible, helping them regulate blood sugar without needing to wear a monitor, restrict themselves, or spend a lot of money. Jessie translates science into understandable tips and tricks that are easy to follow and will help you harness the power of balancing your blood sugar, even if you are not diabetic.
Her top hacks can be summarized as follows:
1. Eat a hearty breakfast (nothing sweet).
2. If you want to consume something sweet, have it as a dessert after lunch or dinner.
3. Avoid pure carbohydrates and combine them with protein, fat, or fiber.
4. Eat food in the following order: Vegetables → Proteins and fats → Starches and sugars.
5. Move your body for 10 minutes within 90 minutes after eating.
6. Consume whole fruits instead of juiced or dried fruits.
I myself monitored my glucose levels with a tracker for two weeks and gained amazing insights into my body. As it turns out, high glucose fluctuations led to fatigue and occasional discomfort like minor dizziness for me. My cravings regularly came after cafeteria meals, which contain a lot of sugar. By following the rules mentioned above, I was able to balance the curve and improve my well-being.
A year later, I still follow her hacks, but I skip the apple cider vinegar she recommended before meals and instead drink half a liter of lemon water (half a squeezed lemon in 0.5 liters of water) in the morning. This is gentler on both the teeth and the stomach. While it's unfortunately not scientifically proven to bring the same success, lemon water is detoxifying and aids digestion, so it's definitely a beneficial choice.
If you're interested in learning more about your body, you can order a glucose tracker here and track the effects of diet and exercise on your body over two weeks. I also recommend reading Jessie Inchauspé's book and/or following her Instagram account to understand the scientific insights and connections better.
